Terms of Service

These Terms of Service ("Terms") are a binding agreement between you and MoneyBook ("we," "us," or "our") governing your access to and use of the MoneyBook website, applications, and related services (the "Service"). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

1. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old and able to form a binding contract to use the Service. By using the Service, you represent that you meet these requirements and that the information you provide is accurate and complete. The Service is intended for personal or household use; use for commercial purposes may require a separate agreement.

2. Description of the Service

MoneyBook provides a private-by-default money operating system that allows you to organize accounts, track transactions, connect financial accounts (e.g., via third-party providers like Plaid), and use tools for categorization, reporting, and related convenience features. We do not provide financial, tax, or legal advice. The Service is provided "as is" for your convenience; you are responsible for your own financial decisions.

3. Account and security

You must register for an account and keep your login credentials confidential. You are responsible for all activity under your account. Notify us immediately if you suspect unauthorized access. We may suspend or terminate your account if we believe you have violated these Terms or for other reasons consistent with our policies.

4. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Use the Service for any illegal purpose or in violation of any applicable laws.
  • Impersonate another person or entity, or misrepresent your affiliation.
  • Upload or transmit malware, viruses, or other harmful code.
  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Service, our systems, or other users' accounts.
  • Interfere with or disrupt the Service or servers or networks connected to the Service.
  • Use automated means (e.g., scrapers, bots) to access the Service without our permission.
  • Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the Service except where permitted by law.
  • Resell, sublicense, or commercially exploit the Service without our written consent.

We may remove content or suspend or terminate accounts that we determine violate these Terms or are harmful to the Service or others.

5. Your content and data

You retain ownership of the content and data you submit to the Service ("Your Content"). By submitting Your Content, you grant us a limited, worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to use, store, process, and display Your Content as necessary to provide and improve the Service and as described in our Privacy Policy. We will not use Your Content for advertising or sell it to third parties. You are responsible for ensuring you have the right to submit Your Content and that it does not infringe any third party's rights.

6. Connected financial accounts

If you connect financial accounts through the Service (e.g., via Plaid), you agree to the applicable third-party terms and our Plaid disclosure. You authorize us and the relevant provider to access and use your account and transaction data as described there. We are not responsible for the availability or accuracy of data from third-party providers.

7. Disclaimers

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR SECURE. WE ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY FINANCIAL, TAX, OR LEGAL OUTCOMES RESULTING FROM YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE.

8. Limitation of liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, MONEYBOOK AND ITS AFFILIATES, OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, AND AGENTS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES (INCLUDING LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, OR GOODWILL) ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF OR INABILITY TO USE THE SERVICE, EVEN IF WE HAVE BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIMS ARISING FROM OR RELATED TO THESE TERMS OR THE SERVICE SHALL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE TWELVE (12) MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM AROSE, OR (B) ONE HUNDRED U.S. DOLLARS ($100). SOME JURISDICTIONS DO NOT ALLOW CERTAIN LIMITATIONS; IN SUCH CASES, OUR LIABILITY WILL BE LIMITED TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW.

9. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless MoneyBook and its affiliates, officers, directors, employees, and agents from and against any claims, damages, losses, liabilities, costs, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising out of or related to (a) your use of the Service, (b) Your Content, (c) your violation of these Terms or any applicable law, or (d) your violation of any third party's rights.

10. Termination

You may stop using the Service and request account deletion at any time (see our Data deletion page). We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service at any time, with or without cause or notice. Upon termination, your right to use the Service ceases. Sections that by their nature should survive (including disclaimers, limitation of liability, indemnification, and governing law) will survive termination.

11. Dispute resolution and governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, United States, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any dispute arising out of or related to these Terms or the Service shall be resolved exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Dallas County, Texas, and you consent to the personal jurisdiction of such courts. You agree that any claim must be brought individually and not as part of a class or representative action. If you are located in a jurisdiction that does not permit these limitations, they may not fully apply to you.

12. Changes to the Terms

We may modify these Terms from time to time. We will post the updated Terms on this page and update the "Last updated" date. Material changes may be communicated via email or a notice in the Service. Your continued use of the Service after the effective date of changes constitutes acceptance of the modified Terms. If you do not agree, you must stop using the Service and may request account deletion.

13. General

  • Entire agreement: These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, Plaid disclosure, and any other policies we reference, constitute the entire agreement between you and MoneyBook regarding the Service.
  • Severability: If any provision of these Terms is held invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions will remain in effect.
  • No waiver: Our failure to enforce any right or provision is not a waiver of that right or provision.
  • Contact: For questions about these Terms, contact us via our Support page.

These terms are provided for your convenience and are not legal advice. Have your legal counsel review them before relying on them.
