Data deletion & account deletion

You can request deletion of your personal data and closure of your MoneyBook account at any time. This page explains how we handle those requests and what happens to your data, including data obtained through connected financial accounts (e.g., via Plaid).

1. How to request deletion

To request account closure and deletion of your data:

  • Use the account or settings section in the MoneyBook app or website, if we provide a "Delete account" or "Request data deletion" option.
  • Contact us via our Support page and clearly state that you want to delete your account and personal data.

We may need to verify your identity before processing the request to protect your account from unauthorized deletion.

2. What we delete

When we process your deletion request, we will delete or anonymize:

  • Your account profile and registration information (e.g., name, email, credentials)
  • Content you created in the Service (e.g., transaction labels, categories, notes)
  • Stored copies of transaction and account data we obtained from you or from connected accounts (e.g., via Plaid), to the extent we control that data
  • Other personal information we hold that is linked to your account

Deletion is carried out in accordance with our data retention and deletion procedures and applicable law. Some data may be retained for a limited time where required for legal, security, or legitimate business purposes (e.g., fraud prevention, dispute resolution), after which it will be deleted or anonymized.

3. Connected financial accounts (e.g., Plaid)

When you connected your financial accounts through MoneyBook, you authorized Plaid (or another provider) and us to access and use your account and transaction data. When you delete your MoneyBook account:

  • We will stop accessing your connected accounts and will delete the data we have stored that was obtained through those connections (e.g., account identifiers, transaction data we imported).
  • Plaid and your financial institution may retain data in accordance with their own policies. To revoke Plaid's access to your accounts, you can use Plaid's portal at my.plaid.com (or the equivalent provided by Plaid) to manage or remove connections. Your financial institution may also have its own process for revoking third-party access.

We do not control data held by Plaid or your bank; for their retention and deletion practices, please refer to their privacy policies and terms.

4. Retention after deletion

After we delete your account and associated data:

  • We may retain certain information for a limited period where required by law (e.g., tax, financial regulations) or for legitimate purposes such as security, fraud prevention, or resolving disputes. Such data will be deleted or anonymized when no longer needed.
  • We may retain anonymized or aggregated data that cannot be used to identify you.

5. Timeline

We will process your deletion request within the timeframes required by applicable law (e.g., typically within 30 days under many privacy laws, unless extended where permitted). You will receive confirmation when the process is complete, or we will inform you if we need more time or if we cannot fulfill the request (e.g., due to a legal obligation), along with the reasons.

6. Other rights

Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to access, correct, or port your data before deletion. See our Privacy Policy for a summary of your rights and how to exercise them. For questions about deletion or other privacy requests, contact us via Support.
